SUA’S ONGOING DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS AND OTHER ACTIVITIES

I. RENOVATION OF THE DIRECTORATE OF ESTATE AND WORKS BUILDING

The goal of this project is to improve the working environment for employees of the Directorate of Estate and Works. The Directorate of Estate and Works in collaboration with the Directorate of Planning and Investment supervises the project. The building is currently operational since most of the work has been completed.

II. IMPROVEMENT OF INFRASTRUCTURE AT THE MIZENGO PINDA CAMPUS

This project aims to improve the campus’s infrastructure and create a conducive environment for learning, studying and working. In the financial year 2021–2022, university management was able to drill a water well and buy two (2) generators, one with an 80 KVA capacity and the other with “8,000 watts”. In addition to generators, the university bought two motorcycles (TVS models) to aid the police in patrolling the area around the university.

III. REHABILITATION OF STAFF HOUSES

Numerous initiatives are being taken to renovate the staff’s houses to improve their living environments under the management  SOKOINE UNIVERSITY OF AGRICULTURE HOUSING AND STUDENT ACCOMMODATION BUREAU (SUASAB) Unit. Up to this point, substantial work has been done to  KIDIDIMO (DANIDA No. 15, while substantial work is still being done to TABORA No. 17A and 17B and KILIMO RD No. 35).  Minor rehabilitations have been made to  ILALA  No. 22A, TABORA  No. 2B, ILALA  16B, ILALA No. 17A, KILIMO RD No.  11, and KIDIDIMO THB 9). Rehabilitation work on staff houses is ongoing and dependent on available funds.

IV. REHABILITATION OF THE MORNING SIDE BUILDING

The main objective of this project is to rehabilitate block A and block B of the Morning side buildings to be used as part of teaching and learning for tourism students while acting as a source of income generation for the University. The project is coordinated by the College of Forestry, Wildlife and Tourism in collaboration with the Directorate of Planning and Investment.

V. REHABILITATION OF HOSTEL No. 3

The main objective of this project is to improve accommodation services for students under the supervision of the Directorate of Estates and Works in collaboration with the Directorate of Planning and Investment.

VI. CONSTRUCTION OF THE “AFRICAN CENTER OF EXCELLENCE EAST AND SOUTHERN AFRICA INNOVATIVE RODENT PEST MANAGEMENT AND BIOSENSOR TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT” (ACE IRPM&BTD) BUILDING 

The goal of this project is to construct a building for the “African Center of Excellence East and Southern Africa Innovative Rodent Pest Management and Biosensor Technology Development (ACE IRPM&BTD)” under the funding of the World Bank. This project is coordinated by the Institute of PEST management and supervised by the Directorate of Estates and Works in collaboration with the Directorate of Planning and Investment.

VII. LAND USE PLAN FOR EDWARD MORINGE CAMPUS

Management of Sokoine University of Agriculture has completed the improvements (updating) of the Land Use Plan (2022-2062) for Edward Moringe Morogoro Campus.

VII. PREPARATION OF RESOURCE MOBILIZATION STRATEGY

The SUA Resource Mobilization Strategy’s goal is to improve the university’s resource mobilization in order to ensure long-term resource availability for the execution of the strategic plan. The Resource Mobilization Strategy’s initial draft was prepared by the Directorate of Planning and Investment in coordination with the Task Force chaired by Dr Damas Philip.
